Hi there! You probably want to know a little about me and why I am the one you want to serve as your private chef on your vacations.
I don’t recall my first-ever flight, however I did have a Continental Airlines (now United) mileage plan account when I was 8 years old. My family and extended family was spread amongst Texas, Maryland, and Virginia. We did the good ol’ American road trip several times over the years, driving up the East Coast to see grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Some of my favorite childhood travel memories are from family reunions in the Outer Banks of North Carolina where my dad’s side of the family would rent a 7-bedroom beach house for a week. Nothing but fun in the sun, eating out or cooking in, board games, boogie boarding, and the occasional water balloon fight.
I got bit, as they say, by the international travel bug as a 16-year old going to Europe for the first time ever with a high school group. We spent 3 weeks in a tour bus on a loop through 5 countries. At age 20, I studied abroad in fabulous Edinburgh, Scotland for a semester of college. Seven cruises in the 2000s and a handful of land-based getaways continue to fuel my desire to embrace more of our planet’s beauty.
My life’s travels to date include 40 states in the U.S. and 36 countries. I have been awed and inspired by breathtaking sights and lifelong memories from each destination. Food is always an integral part of my travel experience, and I am grateful for the local flavors that enrich our palates in such savory and sweet ways. Whether it’s conch fritters in the Caymans, kangaroo steak in Australia, or Sachertorte in Vienna, each taste leaves a unique impression of that particular destination. These are the types of experiences I want to create for you and your family as a traveling chef for your vacation.
Aside from being a savvy traveler and world adventurer, I bring over 20 years of foodservice experience to your table. Supposedly 10,000 hours of practice makes you an expert in any field. Whether that’s true or not, I figure I passed that mile marker a long time ago with years in hotels, restaurants, and now as a personal chef. In 2012, I started Honest to Goodness Personal Chef Services based in Seattle, Washington, which has grown to a team of 9 total employees serving dozens of households each week plus special occasion home-entertaining events.
Aside from travel and food, I enjoy reading, playing with my dog Monty, gardening, long walks on the beach… I hail from the Houston, Texas area originally and have called Seattle home since 2006. I was an active kid involved in Girl Scouts, piano lessons, summer league swimming, soccer, volleyball, and 7 years of water polo in high school and college. At Virginia Tech, Go Hokies!, my studies included in Nutrition, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and a heaping dose of business classes.
Some fun facts of my foodie preferences:
- Margaritas: rocks, no salt
- Favorite Sandwiches: a Cuban and a Muffuletta
- Tomatoes: cooked, not raw
- Mushrooms: absolutely not! (But I’ll cook them for you)
- Favorite Celebrity Chef: Alton Brown
- Most Memorable Meal on Vacation: Wow, that’s a tough one.
- Coffee: mostly decaf (strong-brewed) with soy/almond creamer and a splash of agave
- Signature Dishes: Tiramisu and Tres Leches (start with dessert first), Gumbo, BBQ, Northwest-Fresh cuisine. In general, honest good food
I’m really good at:
